Student Internship Program

At Align Counseling and Wellness, we are passionate about investing in the next generation of mental health professionals. Our Master’s Level Student Internship Program provides counseling students with a supportive, hands-on learning experience designed to bridge the gap between the classroom and clinical practice.

As part of their clinical training, our student therapists provide free counseling services to community members under the supervision of experienced, licensed clinicians. This allows students to gain valuable clinical experience while increasing access to quality mental health care for individuals and families who may benefit from counseling services.

Interns work alongside experienced clinicians in a collaborative, ethical, and client-centered environment while developing the skills and confidence needed for a successful career as a therapist. Students gain experience in individual counseling, clinical documentation, treatment planning, case consultation, and professional development, all while receiving quality supervision and mentorship.

We strive to create an internship experience that encourages growth, curiosity, and clinical excellence. Our goal is not only to help students meet their academic requirements but also to prepare them to become compassionate, competent, and confident mental health professionals.

If you are a Master’s level counseling student seeking a meaningful internship experience—or if you are looking for counseling services and are interested in working with one of our supervised student therapists—we would love to connect with you.

Hi, I’m Lindsay Shuffstall.

Hi, I’m Lindsay! I am a Clinical Mental Health Counseling intern with an M.Ed. in School Counseling, a graduate certificate in Military Behavioral Health and Counseling, and certification as a trauma‑informed yoga teacher. My approach is person‑centered, strengths‑based, and grounded in both clinical understanding and mind‑body awareness. I believe healing happens when we honor the whole person, thoughts, emotions, nervous system, and lived experience.

I bring experience supporting adolescents and families through stress, transitions, identity development, and emotional challenges. As a military spouse of 22 years, I also understand the unique pressures that come with change, uncertainty, and complex family systems. With over sixteen years of suicide‑prevention advocacy and crisis‑response experience, I show up with steadiness, compassion, and deep respect for each client’s pace and process.

I am especially interested in the connection between the body and emotional regulation, and how somatic responses can guide healing. When appropriate, I integrate mindfulness, grounding, and trauma‑informed movement to support clients in building safety and resilience from the inside out.

As part of my internship with Align Counseling and Wellness, I am offering free counseling services and work to provide a safe, grounded environment where you can feel supported as you move through the challenges and transitions of your current season.
